Butterfly sighting
Speckled Wood
Report Details
Whilst strolling around Old Lodge yesterday, I saw my first ever Wall Brown & Clouded Yellow at this reserve. I did see a Clouded Yellow last week in the Nutley area of the forest, but the Wall was a real treat. In the six years of living locally, I've only ever seen two Wall Browns and both sightings were in Crowborough. Plenty of Speckled Woods making the most of the sunshine.

I believe that is TQ43 (dear members, please do provide grid references - it does make my efforts a lot easier). Any record of a Wall in the northern half of Sussex is a great rarity. Further evidence that Wall is gradually expanding its horizons. In Sussex, the third brood doesn't appear to be harming its well-being. Quite the opposite, it would seem.   Martin K
